Social Networking, the Buzz, the chat, the talk, the meeting, the striking of deals, the combination of everything else, the meeting point for people, the socializing, the blog, the designers, the screwballs, the writers, the techies, the wannabes, the me too’s! and finally some sane new age gurus .. who seem to just purport common sense but then on close introspection i realize it’s not really very common!!
Notice something? They all basically provide the exact same thing! Connect!! But email already does that. With email i can do anything and everything what these guys do, so what makes them think they can make money??
Some of them cash in on some little hobby like writing for instance. Sixapart and Wordpress.com take care of this itch to write. Places like 37signals talk about simplification, sharing, collaborating. It might just work for a few, but what do they provide which our own humble email does not? Sure they keep the bandwidth levels high with lesser amount of email being sent across but does it justify spending 20$ a month/user on such an application?
If you have 15 people sitting on the same floor, why would you want to use any of the above?? To connect??
